Some units are held at affordable rents to support individuals and families who need it most, while others are near market rates to foster vibrant, integrated communities. This model not only promotes social inclusivity but also supports the long-term financial stability of our buildings, enabling us to continue offering affordable housing options for generations to come.
To apply for one of our market rental units, please ensure you qualify using the following checklist:
- Must be able to open an account with NS Power and Halifax Water in the leaseholder(s) name
- The Primary Applicant must be 18 years of age or older
- All rental balances owing from any landlord must be paid in full
- Must not own a pet. Units do not accommodate pets
To apply for affordable housing with Rooted, please ensure you qualify using the following checklist:
- Same requirements as Market Rentals and;
- Your household income from all sources must be within the minimum and maximum limits (including children 18 years of age or older) *These figures are updated annually.
- Apartment (1 BRM): Min = $19,000/year and Max = $47,000/year
- Apartment (2 BRM): Min = $22,000/year and Max = $60,000/year
- Apartment (3 BRM): Min = $24,000/year and Max = $67,500/year
- Apartment (4 BRM): Min = $24,000/year and Max = $77,000/year
- Must be able to provide the most current Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment for income verification for household members 18 years of age or older
- Must not have ownership in any Real Estate (Residential/Commercial)
- Must provide proof of student status for children age 18 to 24 who are full-time student

AFTER HOURS MAINTENANCE EMERGENCIES
If you have a maintenance emergency after office hours (weekdays after 4:30 PM or before 9:00 AM, weekends or holidays) please call our office and follow the after hours maintenance emergency instructions or call directly to our after hours emergency line at 902-469-0518.
Is it an emergency?
Emergency –
- Loss of heat
- Major electrical concern
- Significant water leak or unexplained loss of water
- Fire/smoke detector malfunction
- Smell of oil or natural gas
- Broken window or door
For all other maintenance concerns, please call to discuss and schedule a work order.

Moving Out
Ending your lease
If you wish to end your lease with Rooted, please follow these important steps:
1. Provide written notice one month in advance
Notify our office at least one calendar month before you intend to end your lease.
2. Schedule a move-out inspection with a Rooted Operations team member
Our staff will arrange a date and time for a move-out inspection. Please ensure your unit is in the same condition as when you moved in (you may request a copy of your move in assessment) aside from normal wear and tear. Any damages found may result in tenant charges, or retaining your security deposit. Please have your unit keys and your mailbox keys at the time of this inspection.
3. Complete a Disposal of Personal Belongings form
It is your responsibility to remove all personal belongings from the unit, including furniture, clothing, food, and household waste. Leaving items behind may result in additional charges, or retaining your security deposit. Staff will provide you with a Disposal of Personal Belongings form so we can dispose of any remaining items after you move out.
Rooted follows the rules set out in the Residential Tenancies Act and Regulations.
